Huntington Library _ Gardens

Just over a mile from the hotel, in neighboring San Marino, is an extraordinary educational and research institution that is also quite a lovely sightseeing destination. The Huntington Library has one of the most extensive collections of rare books, manuscripts and paintings in the United States. Included in the collection is a Gutenberg Bible, sections of the written text of William Shakespeare's "Hamlet," the manuscript for Benjamin Franklin's autobiography, and world-renowned Thomas Gainsborough painting, "The Blue Boy." The 120-acre botanical gardens contain some of the rarest plants from around the world.

Norton Simon Museum

The Norton Simon Museum of Art has one of the world's finest art collections, containing Western and Asian art that spans over 2,000 years. Located three miles from the hotel, the museum is showcased every year during the Tournament of Roses Parade, where its entrance on Colorado Blvd. is clearly seen. The museum is named after industrialist and philanthropist Norton Simon, who was looking for a site to house his art collection, which had grown to over 4,000 objects. In 1995, the interior space was renovated by famed architect Frank Gehry.

The Pacific-Asia Museum

Built in 1926, the Pacific-Asia Museum is a beautifully adorned showcase for Asian art and antiques. Located on Los Robles Ave., just two miles west of the hotel, the museum is in the National Register of Historic Places. The building was originally the home of Grace Nicholson, who used part of her house as a gallery to showcase prized collection of oriental and western art. Since this museum is relatively small, the themed exhibits rotate to continually showcase the 14,000 artistic works and artifacts in the collection.

Pasadena Museum of California Art

Less than two miles from the hotel is a very unique museum, the Pasadena Museum of California Art. Located near the Pasadena Playhouse, this institution has a vast collection of California-created art, architecture and designs from 1850 to the present. The 30,000 square foot, three-story facility has 8,000 square feet of gallery space, a bookstore and community room.

San Gabriel Historical Association Museum

Just over three miles from the hotel is the San Gabriel Historical Association Museum, which is an excellent first-hand source on the history of early California. The museum is situated in the lovely Victorian-style Hayes House and contains information on the Gabrielino-Tongva Indians, adobes and the local mission are all on display.

Los Angeles County Arboretum

If you've ever wondered the opening of the 1980's hit T.V. show, "Fantasy Island" was filmed, it was at the Los Angeles County Arboretum, just over three miles from the hotel. The four-acre natural lake was the main attraction for many of the Johnny Weissmuller "Tarzan" films in the '30's and '40's. There are a plethora of rare and tropical plants as far as the eye can see. Plus, the library contains over 20,000 books and 300 current periodicals pertaining to gardening, horiculture, botany, agriculture and environmental issues.

Museum of the American West

Howdy, Pardners! If you like rootin'-tootin' western adventure and lots of cowboy memorabilia, then you should mosey on down to the Museum of the American West (formally the Autry Museum of Western Heritage). Located right across the street from the Los Angeles Zoo (about ten miles from the hotel, as the crow flies), the museum showcases a broad range of art and artifacts that chronicle the history and diversity of the American West. This is an admission fee during the week, but on weekends (from noon to 5 p.m.), attendance is free.

Kidspace Children's Museum
